You nearly never get to be fully alone when you live in a major city. There’s a strong
possibility you’ll run into someone you know or, at the absolute least, see some
strangers while running errands, dashing from point A to point B, or simply going for a
walk. And it’s not always a bad thing, especially if you’re walking alone, because these
strangers could save your life. At least, that’s what happened to TikTok user @lyss, who
shared her experience walking back home in New York City.
This TikTok user chose to tell her tale about what happened to her on her way home to
help others understand why wearing headphones when you’re alone is a bad idea.
Alyssa Bossio, a blogger and influencer, posted a video to her TikTok account to alert
everyone about a risky scenario she found herself in. The woman began her narrative
by warning people who are walking alone not to wear headphones. She apologized to
making the error, which may have resulted in her being attacked.

Alyssa was returning home from Starbucks, which was only a short distance from her
apartment. And, like many individuals these days, I’m guessing she was listening to
music while glancing at her phone. She was so preoccupied with what her friend had
emailed her that she didn’t notice a man trailing her.

A passing stranger saw the woman was being followed and attempted to warn
her, but she was unable to hear her.
When a lady noticed this, she sought to catch Alyssa’s attention. She couldn’t hear the
woman, who was screaming nonstop. When the TikToker entered her apartment’s
lobby, she heard a woman and spotted a man standing behind her with something in his
pocket.

Before she heard the lady scream and turned around to see what was going on,
the man followed her into her apartment lobby.
The dude was actually standing in Alyssa’s lobby when she noticed him and fled away.
The woman was relieved to discover that her apartment building had security cameras,
allowing her to report the event to the authorities. No doubt, she was glad to this
tenacious lady who had been after them both the entire time and had made sure Alyssa
heard her.
The authorities are currently investigating the event, according to Alyssa, but the most
essential update in this circumstance is to avoid getting distracted by items like your
phone or headphones. “As a buddy of mine says, taking away your hearing and seeing
takes away all of your natural defenses,” she added. Another of my followers gave me
advice to always make eye contact with persons who appear to be a threat. They
usually look for women who are preoccupied or who are listening to something or who
are on their phone.”
Even though no one was wounded, the woman learned from the experience that she
must always be mindful of her surroundings.

Such events might have a significant psychological influence on a person. So, how’s the
lady doing now that she’s been through all of this? “I have a strong sense of caution. “I
need to be more cautious, and I’m concerned about listening to music while walking or
exercising in the city,” Alyssa explained. She also said that she had previously felt
unsafe, but that the man actually following her to her apartment building made her
understand how terrible things could have turned out if it hadn’t been for another lady
chasing her.
Individuals on social media have noted that this occurs not only in New York City but
also in other cities, implying that people should be mindful of their surroundings no
matter where they are, especially when they are alone.
